Having worked in the industry for a number of years both locally and in the United States, Frederick and Maureen Sutherland saw the need to introduce a world class professional cleaning service to Jamaica. With that urge came a desire to raise the profile of professionals working in the industry.
M.E.L was the first company in Jamaica to employ women as porters and grounds maintenance workers, giving them equal opportunities to choose a path of their own. Today, M.E.L has a workforce of over 650 trained professionals.

Milestone Environmental Limited started in early 1999 after acquiring the portfolio of Custodial & Property Management Services Ltd, a company which had been managed by Frederick Sutherland

Mr. Frederick Sutherland
Managing Director

Frederick has been in the cleaning business since 1979. His experience includes physical Plant Management of Buildings in excess of one million sq. ft. including managing the Social Security Head quarters Maryland (MD). So he knows clean. As the man in charge, he’s responsible for setting the standards to which each of our over 650 Professionals are held accountable. With many years experience in the business in the United States, he is acutely aware of the detail and dedication it requires to do the job. His keen Marketing insight has allowed the company to discover new niches to target and satisfy.

Meet Maureen. She provides much of the inspired thinking and strategy which drives us. With more than two decades of experience in Accounting and Budgeting, she designs and implements all our financial , administrative and personnel systems. Maureen is keen on ensuring that cutting edge technology is implemented and maintained throughout the company. Her contribution ensures we are continuously advancing our growth as leaders in the field. Maureen’s marketing experience has allowed her to be sensitive to the needs of the people we serve.
